Welcome to Barr Beacon SCITT. Barr Beacon SCITT is an experienced, dedicated and ambitious provider of Initial Teacher Training with a thriving partnership of secondary and primary schools in the West Midlands and Warwickshire. We aim to develop the very best classroom practitioners who will go on to inspire, influence and shape the lives of future generations for years to come. This aim underpins everything about our training programme and we're incredibly proud of what we do.

At Barr Beacon SCITT we know what it takes to make a great teacher. We offer a well-established training, mentoring and professional development programme which leads to recommendation for QTS and a PGCE with the opportunity to gain up to 60 masters credits.

Secondary Training

Barr Beacon SCITT offers a full time secondary training programme on our 11-16 courses in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, English, Geography, History, Mathematics, French, German, Spanish, Physical Education, Physics and Religious Education and our 14-19 courses in Psychology and Business Studies.

As a secondary trainee teacher with Barr Beacon SCITT, you will experience a main and contrasting placement school, you will visit a primary school and you will take part in our carousel and Intensive Training and Practice weeks visiting many schools in our partnership for specialised training. You will benefit from our up-to-date and detailed training curriculum which is embedded in and woven through our professional and subject studies sessions, mentor meetings and school placements. The University of Worcester deliver the PGCE sessions on site at Barr Beacon School throughout the year enabling you to gain a PGCE with up to 60 masters credits.

Primary Training

Our primary SCITT programme is run in two partnerships defined by location: our Walsall partnership is led by Ryders Hayes School and our Wolverhampton partnership is led by Manor Primary School. We offer a full time Primary SCITT programmes in the age ranges 3-7 and 5-11.

As a trainee you will experience a main and contrasting placement school, you will visit a secondary school, you will receive bespoke training opportunities that are tailored to your individual needs and you will benefit from our up-to-date and detailed training curriculum. The University of Worcester delivers the PGCE sessions on-site at Barr Beacon SCITT enabling you to gain a PGCE with up to 60 masters credits.

QTS

Be recommended for the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) by Barr Beacon SCITT.

PGCE

Have the opportunity to gain the award of Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with the University of Worcester for our Secondary and Primary courses. If you want to find out more about the University of Worcester click HERE. 

60 Masters Credits

Gain up to 60 Masters credits from assignments with the Universities that demonstrate Masters level study and progression to a higher degree qualification (subject to satisfying the assessment criteria set out by the University of Worcester).

Facilities

As a SCITT trainee you will have access to our iCentre facility based at Barr Beacon School, which houses computer suites, meeting areas and our library facilities. We have an extensive selection of teacher training textbooks and subject specific literature to support you through your studies. We are also very proud of our new-build at Barr Beacon School which is the hub of the SCITT and contains our teacher training conference rooms and training suites.
