There are both academic and non-academic (including a Dislosure and Barring Service check) entry requirements for the teacher training programmes. The SCITT is responsible for ensuring that all applicants are able to demonstrate that they meet these national requirements by the start of the programme.
All applicants are required to pass the professional skills tests in literacy and numeracy. This must be completed before the start of the programme; ideally, they should be completed before the assessment and interview stage.
Once an application has been sent to UCAS, applicants can register for the skills tests via the Department for Education website. In all cases, passing the professional skills tests will form part of the conditions of your offer.
We require a Grade C at GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics is essential for all applicants. All successful candidates are strongly recommended to undertake as much school experience prior to starting the course as possible. A minimum of 10 days school experience is required before starting the programme.
We offer a number of school based experiences through our open mornings and the School Experience Programme (SEP).
Candidates are eligible to take up places on the School Direct salaried route if they:
- Are eligible to work in England as an unqualified teacher; and
– Possess three or more years’ work experience.
