There are both academic and non-academic entry requirements for the Barr Beacon SCITT Initial Teacher Training programme. The SCITT has overall responsibility for ensuring that all applicants are able to demonstrate that they meet these national, statutory requirements by the start of the programme. All documentation provided to the SCITT must be an original copy.

Course Cost 2024/2025 - £9250

A Degree

A UK degree (or equivalent), usually an Honours degree, normally a degree classification of at least a 2:2 is required.

Grade C/4

At least a Grade C or Grade 4 at GCSE (or equivalent) in English Language or Literature, Mathematics and in a science subject is essential for all applicants.

Candidate Checks

All offers made are subject to enhanced DBS clearance and further background checks. Information on which checks are carried out by the SCITT prior to the commencement of the course can be found here.

We are guided by the DfE’s guidance on Keeping Children Safe in Education and all offers are subject to enhanced DBS clearance.

We have a responsibility to ensure that trainees have the health and physical capacity to teach. This will take the form of a questionnaire prior to the commencement of the course.

All trainees are subject to a prohibition to teach check, a disqualification check and a right to work check. We may contact references for further information.
